High-voltage monitoring with a solenoid retarding spectrometer at the KATRIN experiment
نویسنده
چکیده
The KATRIN experiment will measure the absolute mass scale of neutrinos with a sensitivity of mν = 200 meV/c2 by means of an electrostatic spectrometer set close to the tritium β decay endpoint at 18.6 keV. Fluctuations of the energy scale must be under control within±60 mV (±3 ppm). Since a precise voltage measurement in the range of tens of kV is on the edge of current 1Corrisponding author. 2Present address: Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt, D-48149 Münster, Germany 3Deceased. c © CERN 2014, published under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License by IOP Publishing Ltd and Sissa Medialab srl. Isotopes for fundamental research in 83Kr for KATRIN
6 Contents Introduction The advantage of radioisotopic standards compared to other physical standards is the independence of their properties from outer conditions. They are neither sensitive to temperature change nor to progress of time. They serve as influence-free-etalon. That is why their use is advantageous in fundamental research, where high precision is required. For instance in direct n...
متن کاملKATRIN: an experiment to determine the neutrino mass from the beta decay of tritium
for the KATRIN Collaboration Abstract KATRIN is a very large scale tritium-beta-decay experiment to determine the mass of the neutrino. It is presently under construction at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology north campus, and makes use of the Karlsruhe Tritium Laboratory built as a prototype for the ITER project. The combination of a large retarding-potential electrostatic-magnetic spectrom...
